A trellis solves two problems at once. It gives climbing plants the structure they need to grow upward instead of sprawling, and it gives a garden vertical greenery in places where there is no ground to plant — against a boundary wall, along a balcony edge, or screening a view you would rather not have.
Because the planting does the covering, a trellis changes character as it establishes: an open frame in the first season, a green wall by the third. Spacing, height and fixing are set by what will be grown on it and how heavy that planting becomes.

How a project runs
